Objective:To explore the correlation of subclinical hypothyroidism with coronary artery disease(CAD).Method:One hundred and forty-nine patients via coronary angiography were divided into two groups:normal coronary artery group(control group)and coronary artery stenosis group.Coronary artery stenosis group was further divided into two sub-groups,single-vessel coronary artery stenosis group and multi-vessel coronary artery stenosis group, according to the severity of CAD.Serum free triiodothyronine(FT3),free thyroxine(FT4) and thyrotropin(thyroid stimulating hormone)(TSH) were tested.Conventional risk factors of coronary artery disease (CAD), clinical characteristics, serum lipid levels, fibrinogen(Fbg) and angiographic results of coronary artery were also examined. Result:1.The prevalence of subclinical hypothyroidism in coronary artery stenosis group (21.7%)was higher than that in the control group(9%) (P<0.05).2.The prevalence of subclinical hypothyroidism in multi-vessel coronary artery stenosis group (28.6%) was higher than that in the control group(9%)(P<0.05).3.The concentration of sTSH in coronary artery stenosis group was higher than that in control group(P<0.05),and the concentration of sTSH in the multi-vessel coronary artery stenosis group was also higher than that in the single-vessel coronary artery stenosis group(P<0.05)and control group(P<0.01).4.Subclinical hypothyroidism was associated with coronary artery disease (OR=2.41 95% CI 0.91-6.38 ) ,and also correlated to multi-vessel coronary atherosclerosis(OR=2.93 95% CI 0.72-12.04).Conclusion:Subclinical hypothyroidism is one of the risk factors for the coronary artery disease .It has positive relationship with the severity of CAD.
