Objective:Discoloration of the teeth is that the color changes of teeth surface or their acquired membrane have occurred. With the improvement of living standards and lifestyle changes, extrinsic tooth discolorations caused by an increase in over-consumption of tobacco, tea, coffee, colored drinks and bad habits are common issues in oral clinical work, refractory patients with discolored teeth due to drug factors and causes of water minerals in our country are numerous, the most commonly methods used to repair and bleach have produced a series of complications because they could damage the structure of the natural tooth and even to stimulate pulp inevitably more or less. In addition, the tooth color determined by the subjective has always been suffering from mental instability and the monotony of reference than the lack of color and many other adverse factors, difficult to achieve a unified objective criteria and therefore can not be well positioned to meet the needs in clinical work. Therefore, in order to set up a new clinical safe and effective teeth whitening convenient measures, this pilot project through the study of the tooth whitening agent and whitening effect, apply a kind of approach with a digital camera colority computer analysis system to evaluate the whitening effect of stained teeth scientifically and reliably, help to make the right dental coloring reasonable diagnosis and treatment and prevention.Materials and Methods:1. Those patients (not including severe dental fluorosis and enamel defects)with anterior teeth and premolars coloring whose age between 20 ~ 55-year-old and whose date of treatment were in January 2005 to October 2008 in our department were selected, the research subjects are healthy adult patients in Hefei city of Anhui Province with 60 cases, teeth neatly arranged, only hope to improve the color of teeth stained (dental experimental subjects are vital teeth, and at least 12 of anterior teeth and first premolars without a large area filling or crown exists), patients willing to participate in the trial signed informed consent form. Information of these cases was collected including age, sex ,clinical stage and so on.2. 60 subjects were randomly assigned to three equal experimental groups: A group, Beyond whitening Group including 20 cases with 320 stained teeth; B group, PolaOffice simple bleach Group including 20 cases with 320 stained teeth; C group, Vaseline blank control group also including 20 cases with 320 stained teeth.3. A group applied Beyond cold light whitening systems to whiten each discolored tooth with 8min*3times;B group PolaOffice simply used bleaching agent to coat and swab the Labial surface of stained teeth each 8min * 3times evenly without any physical measures; C group as a control study just used Vaseline to coat and swab Labial teeth suffering from stain evenly without adding any physical and chemical measures. Each discolored tooth of the subjects was carried out teeth Vita color and brightness record and photographed by digital camera and input computer before and after the experiment to calculate L * a * b * andΔE values.4. Each set of data and inter-group parameter comparison before and after the experiment were put into use SPSS11.5 statistical software for statistical analysis and P <0.05 are considered as significant difference.Results:1. A, B, C three groups have the efficiency of the experimental effects which were respectively 95.31, 6.56 and 0. Beyond whitening group and Vaseline control group compared, have significant difference in the result ofχ2= 582.69, P<0.01; PolaOffice office bleaching agent group and Vaseline control group drew a comparison, have the efficiency result ofχ2=21.71, P<0.01, their difference is also very significant; The Beyond whitening group and PolaOffice clinic bleaching group have also an efficient result ofχ2=504.28, P<0.01 after comparison, and show that significant differences have statistical significance.2. Three experimental groups were all completed, of which, Beyond teeth whitening group its surface average scores of brightness by Vita shade guide before and after the experiment were respectively 10.29±4.15 and 4.18±2.57, and its average difference values of brightness before and after experiment was -6.11±3.72,considered as a very significant difference (p<0.01).3. A simple bleach and vaseline control group their Vita shade guide color average difference values were compared before and after the experiment, were respectively -0.30±3.97 and -0.08±4.18, the difference is not significant (p>0.05).4. Beyond whitening bleach group and simple group and vaseline control group their average difference values of tooth surface Vita color before and after the study as△E, were respectively 3.59±2.17,1.01±0.78,0.95±0.46. Applying multiple range test(Student-Newman-Keuls, SNK) of analysis of variance, the former with the latter two groups were compared separately for Vita color differenceΔE have both a very significant difference (p<0.01). But no significant difference between the latter two trial groups on△E*ab after test (p>0.05).Conclusions:1. Approach by application of bleaching agent to repel extrinsic and intrinsic discoloration and whiten teeth should be safe non-invasive, simple and convenient . The experiments showed that the methods with irradiating the bleaching agent by the cold light of physical facilities is short effort and more convenient and time-saving . Compared tooth surface brightness very significant difference before and after the experiment, compared with the other two groups its differenceΔE of teeth surface is very significant difference and the added value is greater than 1.5 NBS units. The short-term efficacy of application by Beyond cold light teeth whitening technology which expend short operation time is certain , safe, reliable, and worthy of promotion. 2. The project which take digital camera& colority computer analysis system is a new method of color measurement and estimation. As a result of absorption the advantages of the traditional visual colorimetry and spectrophotometric color measurement method, the approach of numerical measurement avoided interference by subjective factors with repeatability and conditions more objective standards is scientific and reliable. The application of color data collection by digital technology is convenient and user-friendly. Software analysis and comprehensive quantifiable indicators for the field of oral color-depth study and exploration has opened up new avenues.
