| Objective To identify the changes of AIDS knowledge and behaviors among people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHAs) to evaluate the effectiveness of AIDS program (Global Fund and CARES).Methods Using cluster sampling method, two surveys were conducted among PLWHAs in eight project counties in December, 2007 and August, 2006 respectively. A structured questionnaire was anonymously administered face-to-face for each participant, with questions about AIDS knowledge and behaviors.Results The AIDS awareness rate was 92.58% in 2007, which was similar to the rate of 92.01% in 2006. The proportions of knowing "volunteer blood donation does not transfer AIDS" and "donating blood every six months is not harmful to health" were 82.66% and 83.67%, which were higher than the mid-term survey (72.45% and 68.38%). The rate of condom use in the last sexual intercourse with spouse was 95.25%, which was higher than the mid-term (91.42%). Among the participants without AIDS and with secondary education were 89.82% and 90.32%, both were higher than the rates of mid-term (95.96% and 97.75%).Conclusion The rate of AIDS awareness of the volunteer blood donation and the rate of condom use within marriage were significantly improved compared to the mid-term survey, indicating that the AIDS program for PLWHA was effective. Objective To identify the HIV/AIDS related knowledge among middle school students in project counties, Anhui province, and to explore adaptive strategies of AIDS education.Methods Using cluster sampling method, 5235 students were recruited in eight project counties in Anhui province. A structured questionnaire was anonymously self-administered for each student in selected classes.Results The awareness of HIV/AIDS was 82.91% and 89.51% in December, 2007 and August, 2006, respectively. The correct answer rate of the other HIV/AIDS knowledge in 2007 was significant higher than that in 2006, except for the items: "can the apparently healthy person be an HIV infected one?" and "can a person infect HIV when sex with a HIV infected person?" The awareness of HIV/AIDS of male and female junior students and female senior students were significant higher than in 2006, and there was significant difference between junior students and senior students in 2007 and in 2006. The senior male and female students' awareness of HIV/AIDS was significant difference. "Can the HIV transmit by the volunteer blood donation", and "Is it baleful with volunteer blood donation every six months? " were significant higher than in 2006. Except for the TV, the broadcast, friends, doctors, the consultant service and teaching in class were the main resources for male students to acquire HIV/AIDS knowledge, and the newspaper and magazine, the literature interpret, the propagandistic material, the propagandistic board and the internet were the main resources for male students. Compared with the lower scores of the HIV/AIDS knowledge, more of the higher scores of students gain the knowledge with the resources of TV, propagandistic material, propagandistic board, teaching in class. More of the students expected to learn the knowledge with literature interpret, doctors, consultant service, teaching in class and internet.Conclusion AIDS awareness being increased, the rates of knowledge of voluntary blood donation and some non-transmission routes. Comprehensive school AIDS education activities will be designed to raise awareness of AIDS, blood donation knowledge, in order to reach the national plan of HIV/AIDS control and prevention. |
