GERD is a clinical common disease and frequently encounterd disease. There are high propotion of the patients who suffered from GERD with the descent of sleep quality reported by recent studies abroad and in our nation. This clinical picture provokes medical workers reconstruction gradually. There is no consensus about its origination and strategy of diagnosing and treating. Objective : To observe the effect of adding herbs come from tranquilizing and nourishing the heart category to Chinese medicinal formulae directed by differentiation of symptoms and signs for classification in treating GERD.Explore methods to improve curative effect of GERD.Methods: 60 qualified cases were selected and divided into the TCM treatment group(20 cases),the TCM combined famotidine treatment group(20 cases)and the TCM control group(20 cases) randomly. The TCM treatment group was taken orally by certain Chinese medicinal formulae plus herbs come from tranquilizing and nourishing the heart category. the TCM combined famotidine treatment group was taken orally by certain Chinese medicinal formulae plus famotidine and the TCM control group only taken orally by certain Chinese medicinal formulae. The reflux diagnostic questionnaires(RDQ) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaires were collected from every case before and after 4 weeks' unremitting therapy, then the effect of therapy were evaluated through the diversity of RDQ and PSQI.Rescults: RDQ reduced 72%-90% in the TCM treatment group and 20 cases achieved clinical excellence. In the TCM combined famotidine treatment group RDQ reduced 57%-89%, 13 cases gained clinical excellence and 7 cases were evaluated clinical valid. In the TCM control group RDQ reduced 28%-82%, 7 cases gained clinical excellence and 12 cases were evaluated clinical valid and 1 case clinical invalid. In comparison with theresults of 3 groups we discovered that the therapy effect of the TCM treatment group was batter than the effect of the TCM control group and was nearly equivalent the effect of the TCM combined famotidine treatment group. Conclusion: This research manifests that adding herbs come from tranquilizing and nourishing the heart category to Chinese medicinal formulae improves the GERD symptoms and sleep quality when the patients suffered from GERD and have sleep difficulties.
