| Objective:To explore the curative effect of Tongqiaoxingnao decoction combined with Western medicine(WM) on acute severe Craniocerebral-injury, and the brain-protective effect of Tongqiaoxingnao decoction at the acute stage of Craniocerebral-injury.Methods:62 patients in hospital ill with acute severe Craniocerebral-injury in the Pattern of Blood stasis Blocking the clean Orifices[Glasgow coma scale (GCS) 5-8 scores,the coma time＞12 hours,the trauma time≤3 weeks] were randomly divided into the treatment group(n=32) and the control group (n=30).Based on conventional WM therapy,the treatment group was treated with Tongqiaoxingnao decoction,while control group was treated with WM only. The clinical symptom and signs,consciousness,GCS coma score,metabolism disorders,hemorrheology and CT scanning of the two groups were compared.Results:Statistical analysis of the results showed that total effective rate (87.5%) and consciousness recovery rate(72.78%) after 10-day's treatment in the treatment group were evidently high than those in the control group (p＜0.05).The fluctuation of vital signs in the first 10 days was smoother in the treatment group than it in the control group(p＜0.05),including abnormal respiration(46.87%) and arrhythmia(43.75%),CT scanning and lumber puncture show that the severity of brain edema and increase of intracranial pressure was less remarkable(p＜0.01) in the treatment group 10 days after injured;While the recovery of metabolism disorders,hemorrheology and the improvement of GCS coma score were better in the treatment group than those in the control group.Conclusion:There were remarkable curative effects on severe Craniocerebral-injury treated with TCM-WM therapy.Tongqiaoxingnao decoction could inhibit vicious circle in the histopathological changes of Severe Craniocerebral—injury to a certain extent.It could shorten the coma time,reduce the disability rate,improve the quality of life of the patients.
