Background The location of the abdominal lymph nodes is usually deep and difficult to touch. Abdominal lymphadenectasis can result from varies of diseases, and different etiology leads to different prognosis. The most common causes may be the malignant tumor metastasis, abdominal lymph node tuberculosis, malignant lymphoma and leukemia, which can involve abdominal lymph nodes through the lymphatic drainage. The primary inflammation(tuberculosis) and primary tumor (lymphoma) can also be the reasons. With the universal application of B-ultrasound,CT,MRI, the detection of the abdominal lymph nodes is getting easier. However, abdominal lymphadenectasis is prone to missed diagnosis or misdiagnosis, due to its diverse clinical manifestations, pathology and non-specific laboratory tests. Therefore,a deeper under -standing of the clinical features of abdominal lymphadenectasis is essential, which is also the focus of clinicians. Objective Through benign or malignant analysis of different ages, different gender and different location of the abdominal lymphadenectasis, a reliable clinical basis for abdominal lymphadenectasis can be provided. Methods abdominal lymphadenectasis During 2000 to 2007,there were 131 cases of patients with abdominal lymphadenectasis in our hospital. Through benign or malignant analysis of different ages, different gender and different location of the abdominal lymphadenectasis, the application of statistical analysis of relevant factors. Results (1) The major three causes of abdominal lymphade nect-asis: the transferation of malignant tumors(41 cases, accounting for 31.4%); abdominal lymph node tuberculosis(35 cases, accounting for. 26.7 %);lymphoma(21 cases, accounting for 16%).(2)There is statistically significance in benign and malignant analysis of different age groups for abdominal lymphadenectasis(x~2=22.23 9,p<0.01):it is the tuberculosis that mainly cause the abdominal lymphade -nectasis in youth group(20 cases, accounting for 35.1%),while in middle-aged and old groups,it is the malignant tumor(53 cases, accounting for 71.6%).(3) Superficial lymph nodes, abdominal pain, weight loss, fever, splenomegaly and abdominal distension are the commom clinical symptoms for those with the the abdominal lymphade-nectasis. In youth group, superficial lymph nodes, fever, abdominal pain, splenomegaly and hepatomegaly are more common; In middle-aged group and old age group, abdominal pain, superficial lymph nodes, weight loss and abdominal distension are more common.(4)There is no relevant links between the gender of patients and the nature (benign or malignant) distribution of abdominal lymphadenectasis. (5)The abdominal lymphadenectasis around pancreas and abdominal aortic tend to be malignant. Conclusion (1) The major three causes of abdominal lymphadenec -tasis: the transferation of malignant tumors, abdominal lymph node tuber- culosis and lymphoma.(2)For young patients with abdominal lymphadenectasis, lymph node tuberculosis should be given the first consideration, while for the middle-aged and older, malignancy should be excluded first.(3) Superficial lymph nodes, abdominal pain, weight loss, fever, splenomegaly and abdominal distension are the common clinical symptoms for those with the the abdominal lymphadenectasis . In youth group, superficial lymph nodes, fever, abdominal pain, splenomegaly and hepatomegaly are more common; In middle-aged group and old age group, abdominal pain, superficial lymph nodes, weight loss and abdominal distension are more common; In the common symptoms are abdominal pain, superficial lymph node and weight loss . For those with super -ficial lymphadenectasis, fever, abdominal pain and weight loss, the relevant examinations of abdominal lymph nodes are needed, which may provide the basis for the etiological diagnosis, particularly for middle-aged and elderly one.(4)There is no relevant links between the gender of patients and the nature (benign or malignant) distribution of abdominal lymphadenectasis. (5)The abdominal lymphadenectasis around pancreas and abdominal aortic tend to be malignant.
