The Current Situation Research Of Rural Community Health Services In Chongyi County Of Jiangxi Province

It is the Party's strategic goal in health work to establish a basic medical and health system covering both urban and rural residents, which is comprised of the public health service system, the health care system, the medical security system, and the pharmaceutical supply system, and which is to provide a safe, effective, convenient and inexpensive medical and health services for the masses. In accordance with The guidance on reform and development of rural health, issued by General Office and Restructuring Office of the State Council in 2001, it is clearly pointed out that township hospitals can graduate into community health service functions in economically developed areas, which encourages the development of community health services in better-off rural areas. This is an effective measure to improve the health status of rural residents and achieve the objectives of primary health care.In recent years, the rural community health service has been launched in the economically developed areas, such as Beijing, Jiangsu province, Zhejiang province, and better results obtained. The work of rural community health service can be promoted smoothly in the economically developed areas. But it loses the economic basis because of a lack of financial support from the government in the underdeveloped areas.It is a very important and practical question how to implement the work of rural community health services in the underdeveloped areas in the future. The work can provide the "Six in One" of medical and health services, including medical treatment, prevention, care, rehabilitation, health education, and technical guidance on family planning, which are convenient, affordable and safe for rural residents.Chongyi county is the first pilot county of rural community health services in Jiangxi Province. There is no available experience to learn in economically underdeveloped regions. In this investigation, Chongyi County is selected as the scope of study. Using multi-stage stratified random sampling, this research has explored 7 township hospitals, 50 village clinics and 5,721 rural residents from 1500 households as the research subjects of agencies and groups in Chongyi county. The analysis of the service capabilities of basic medical institutions and the residents'health needs as well as use can provide a theoretical basis for experimental work in the pilot project of rural community health service in economically underdeveloped areas.This research paper contains the following three parts:In Part I, the current status of china's community health services, the meaning of rural community health services, and potential problems in rural community health service in economically underdeveloped areas, are introduced and discussed.In Part II, the current situation of rural community health services in Chongyi County is described through the analysis of survey data, involving the basic socio-economic situations, socio-demographic characteristics, the residents'health need and use, and the service capacity of health institutions.In Part III, based on the analysis and results of the survey, a solution on the rural community health services in Chongyi County is proposed.
