Objective: Primary peritoneal carcinoma is a malignant tumor with low incidence and high misdiagnosis rate. This paper analyzed the clinical characteristics, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of primary malignant peritoneal carcinoma to raised the awareness of this disease .Methods: To analyzed retrospectively clinical data of 24 cases which diagnosis was primary peritoneal carcinoma in our hospital between February 2002 and J February 2009.Results: In this group, confirmed by pathology: Primary peritoneal seropapillary adenocarcinoma were 16 cases, Krukenberg tumor were 2 cases, Transitional cell carcinoma was 1 cases, the 5 cases through ascites Cytological examination revealed adenocarcinoma cells, combined with auxiliary examination confirmed the diagnosis, without surgical treatment. The ages of Patients were 30 to 79 years old, median age were 56 years old. Postoperative chemotherapy scheme was combination chemotherapy that platinum-based. Survival time of patients were 3 to 47 months, median survival time were 17 months.Conclusions: The knowledge of the clinical characteristics of primary peritoneal carcinoma should be raised, the diagnosis should be cleared as soon as possible, tumor cell cytoreductive surgery should be performed timely, the scope of surgery should not be overemphasized, combined with the actual situation, patients should be given combination chemotherapy that platinum-based timely, sufficient dose, adequate treatment, to improve patient's survival rate and improve the prognosis.
