| The development of medicine is an indispensable part of the human history. In the traditional Chinese society, medicine was born with witchcraft. They represent the God and gave people treatment both on the physical and spiritual parts. Then, the doctors depart with the necromancer and established their own whole medical science after continuously practice. During the Sung dynasty, the doctors' knowledge structure and social status had been changed, for there were many Confucian scholars joined the doctors' team. During the Ming and Qing dynasties Jiangnan area, literates practicing medicine being more and more popular, Confucian doctors became one of the most important parts of the civilian medical system. At the same time, the Zoufang doctors and Wenpo—midwife in ancient China were still playing irreplaceable roles in the ordinary ones' lives. Furthermore, more and more professional women doctors showed on the stage, too. For these reason, it's a vital part of the Chinese society history research to explore the civilian doctors' lives and their medical treatment.Chorography of the Ming and Qing dynasties in Jiangnan is the main data of this thesis, and the corpus, diaries, medical cases written by literates and doctors are the accessorial materials. The main idea of this thesis is to reappear the lives and true images of the traditional Chinese doctors, and to show the sanitary conditions, the medical treatment, the people ideology and folk-custom of the Jiangnan area with a comprehensive visual angle. Finally, the thesis wants to make accurate and optimistic judgements to the traditional Chinese doctors, for the purpose of restoring the traditional Chinese medical science. |
