The Expression Of Transforming Growth Factor-β, Basic Fibroblast Growth Factor In Transversalis Fascia Of Patients With Inguinal Hernia

Objective:To clarify the expression of TGF-βand bFGF in the transversalis fascia of patients with primary inguinal hernia,and to further investigate the etiology of inguinal hernia.Methods:A prospective control research is planned.All samples are obtained from transversalis fascia of patients with original inguinal hernia(40 direct hernias;40 indirect hernias),while samples from 20 volunteers without hernia disease are for control.All samples are immunohistochemically labeled by anti-TGF-βand anti-bFGF.Results:The expression of TGF-βin direct hernias is significantly lower than that of controls(P=0.015),while remarkable lower level of TGF-βis also evident in directs compared with indirects(P=0.002),but there is no statistical difference between indirects and controls(P=0.867);however,the expression of bFGF shows no statistical difference between any of the groups(p=0.721).Conclusions:The lowered expression of TGF-βweakens the transversalis fascia,and then it influences the development of direct hernia,but maybe it has nothing to do with indirect hernia;the similar expression of bFGF suggests it has no relationship with inguinal hernia.
