【Objective】Mallet deformity of the finger is caused by detachment of the extensor mechanism from the base of the distal phalanx either directly.People who received the injury could not extend the tip of the finger,And sometime they didn't pay much attention about it,so we could see a lot of patients with the mallet deformity coming to see the orthopaedist. The management remains controversial——conservative treatment or surgical method. The purpose of this study was to find a new and reliable procedure.【Methods】This was a retrospective study. From July 2004 to December 2006,A consecutive study of 52 patients(21 females and 31 males)with mallet finger were investigated. The mean age was about 35 years,we divided them to 2 groups randomly. Each group included 26 cases. One group was treated by syringe needle and musculotaneous suturing, the other was treated by aluminous splint. The following-up is about 2 year. The extent of pain, range of motion and Crawford score were compared between the two groups.【Result】According to Crawford's evaluation standard, there were 15 cases graded as excellent,9 cases as good,2 cases as fair, and 0 case as poor, excellent and good rate was 92.3%in groupⅠ.And 10 cases graded as excellent,7 cases as good,7 cases as fair, and 2case as poor, excellent and good rate was 65.3%in groupⅡ.There was a significant difference between the two groups.【Conclusion】We find that the method about percutaneous syringe needle fixation is effective in treating the mallet finger. It is simple and easy, especially available. In some area it is better than conservative or surgical treatment. But the new treatment of mallet finger is still evolving,we should do our best to improve it.
