Objective: Two acupuncture prescriptions was selected which are Shiqizhui (EX-B7) and Sanyinjiao (SP6), Ciliao (BL32), Diji (SP8) and Shiqizhui (EX-B7) both effective for primary dysmenorrhea under the same manipulation, time course and intervention time. Different influences on primary dysmenorrhea were observed and then the better acupint or acupoint combination was optimized which can lay the foundation for the perfection of acupoint optimization. Methods: 60 patients with primary dysmenorrhea were divided into three groups. Among the 60 cases, there were 20 in single acupoint group, 20 in combination acupoint group and 20 in control group without acupuncture treatment. Then the changes of CMSS and VAS before and after treatment were observed to compare the differences among the three groups. Results: The VAS value and the CMSS value of the treatment group significantly lower after treatment (P<0.05). The CMSS value of control group does not have obvious change in the course of research (P>0.05). The CMSS value and the VAS value of single-point group and these of combination acupoint are no significant difference (P>0.05). Conclusions: Both pricking single acupoint and combination acupoint in improving symptoms in primary dysmenorrhea patients have good results. The study also proved that the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea are equivalent with pricking single-point Shiqizhui (EX-B7) and the Group points Sanyinjiao (SP6), Ciliao (BL32), Diji (SP 8) and Shiqizhui (EX-B7) and testified that only a single point Shiqizhui (EX-B7) can be selected for acupuncture treatment of primary dysmenorrheal when pain.
