Objective To investigate the effects of medical treatment on the recurrence of endometrioma after conservative laparoscopic surgery. Methods One hundred and seventy-two patients with endometrioma who had undergone conservative laparoscopic surgery were followed up and the rate and time of recurrence was analyzed. Results The total rate of recurrence was 38.2% after following-up for an average of 23.8 months. The rate and time of recurrence in patients with endometrioma who had oral drug therapy for less than 3 months and more than 3months, GnRH-a treatment for less than 3 months and more than 3months, and had no medical treatment after surgery were 43.8 % ,13.6 m; 30.8 %, 17.8 m; 36.8 % , 15.3 m; 40 % , 14.3 m; 42.3 % , 10.5 m, respectively. There were no significant differences of the rate or time of recurrence among the patients with and without medical treatment after surgery (P>0.05).Conclusion(s): Our results suggest that medical therapy has no influence on the rate and time recurrence in patients with endometrioma after conservative laparoscopic surgery, although the long interval of recurrence occurs in patients with medical treatment.
