Resistance to thyroid hormone syndrome(RTHS) is characterized by decreased tissue responsiveness to thyroid hormone, and due mainly to mutation of the thyroid hormone receptor(TR) beta gene.Clinically, there exist three major forms of RTHS: generalized resistance to thyroid hormone(GRTH),pituitary resistance to thyroid hormone(PRTH) and selective peripheral resistance to thyroid hormone(PerRTH). Here we report two cases of pituitary resistance to thyroid hormone(PRTH).One patient was a 14-year-old female, while another was a 52-year-old female.Although they showed different clinical courses, the two carried the same laboratory examination revealing elevated serum thyroid hormone levels and a normal thyrotropin(TSH) level. Ultrasonography disclosed variety degree of goiter, and pituitary MRI were negative. Both of them had positive result of high-dose dexamethasone suppression test.
