Studies On Anti-inflammatory And Analgesic Effects Of Torricellia Angulata Oliv

Toricellia angulata Oliv. var. intermedia (Harms.) Hu, belonging to Toricelliaceae, is a single family and single genus plant. It is distributed in Shanxi, Gansu, Hunan, Hubei, Guangxi, Sichuan, Guizhou and Yunnan provinces in China. It grews on the hills with the altitude of 400-1800 meters. In Chinese folk medicine, T. angulata is used to promote blood flow to remove blood stasis and expel wind, remove dampness. All of the roots, barks, leaves and flowers of T. angulata have pharmacodynamic action. The roots, barks and leaves, when ad usum internum, is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, puerperal lumbago, chronic enteritis, diarrhoea and is used to treat bone fracture and injury from fall while ad hibeo. The flowers is used to treat blood stasis and amenorrhea.The anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects of ligroin part, acetidin part, n-butanol part and water part from Torricellia angulata oliv. were observed by means of dimethylbenzene inducing ear edema model and acetic acid inducing mouse writhing model. It was found that ligroin part and acetidin part from Torricellia angulata oliv. could markedly suppress the mouse's ear edema induced by dimethylbenzene and significantly reduce the writhing frequency induced by acetic acid. The results indicated that the ligroin part and acetidin part from Torricellia angulata oliv. have notable effects on anti-inflammation and analgesia.Repeated fractionation and purification of EtOAc fraction of Torricellia angulata oliv. by chromatographic procedures gave 13 compounds. Through comparison to standard preparation and spectrum analysis, 13 constituents are identified (Fig.1). They are SZR-1 (β-sitosterol), SZR-2 (7-Hydroxy-6-methoxycoumarin), SZR-3 (octadecanoic acid), SZR-4 (palmitic acid), SZR-5 (syringoylglycerol), SZR-6 (8-hydroxy-7-[2-hydroxy-2-(4-hydroxy-3,5- dimethoxyphenyl)-1-(hydroxymethyl)ethoxy]-6-methoxy-2H-1-benzopyran-2-one), SZR-7 (3,5-dimethoxybenzaldehyde), SZR-8 (β-daucosterol), SZR-9 (Aquillochin), SZR-10 (trans-p-methylcinnamaldehyde), SZR-11 (7-oxositosteryl-β-glucopyranoside tetraacetate), SZR-12 (o,p-dimethoxybenzoic acid), SZR-13 (10-Grisecinosidic acid). SZR-5, SZR-6, SZR-9 were isolated from the genus for the first time and SZR-2, SZR-7, SZR-10, SZR-11 and SZR-12 were isolated from the plant for the first time.
