Objective:To investigate the clinical effect of applying the cervical three needles with special acupoints on the wrist and ankle in the treatment of cervical spondylotic radiculopathy.Method:The diagnostic standards of cervical spondylotic radiculopathy were according to the "Second National Symposium on Cervical Spondylosis" and the "The Diagnostic Guideline in Traditional Chinese Medicine" as provided by the National Health Department.A total of sixty patients were randomly divided into treatment(combined therapy) and control(basic acupuncture) groups. The former used the combined therapy of cervical three needles and special acupoints on the wrist and ankle;while the latter used simple acupuncture therapy used cervical three needles and simple acupuncture. After one course of treatment, the clinical effect was determined as per the "The Guide to Clinical Diagnosis and Curative Effect in Chinese Medicine".Results:Before treatment, the degree of pain was assessed in both groups, and the difference was not statistically different(p>0.05).After treatment, the level of pain in both groups decreased significantly(p<0.05).The change in the groups after treatment were analyzed statistically, and found that the treatment group was significantly better than that of the control group(p<0.05).Conclusions:Both therapies were effective in the treatment of cervical spondylotic radiculopathy;the level of pain and other symptoms were relieved significantly. However, the combined therapy of cervical three needles with special acupoints on the wrist and ankle was significantly more effective than that with simple acupuncture.
