Situation Analysis On Quailty Of IUD Insertion Service At County And Township Level, Yunnan, China

Objectives:To understand current procedure and performance of IUD insertion in family planning service delivery points at county and township level,and to compare the disparities between two levels' service delivery points as well as to identify and discuss the main differences which may impact the quality of IUD insertion service.Methods:By adopting the total quality management framework,and situation analysis, observation,focus group disscusion,exit interview and existing data collection were applied to explore the technical and managing determinants for IUD use effectiveness in the three randomly selected cross-sectional counties.Result:The township family planning service clinics prefered to apply the certain types of IUD which are recommended by the National Family Planning Committee with evidences on high effectiveness,rather than some profitable IUDs;the number of IUD types adopted by the township family planning service clinics is fewer than the county family planning service centers;fewer IUD service providers are available in the township family planning service clinics;the clients who received IUD insertion in the township family planning service clinics are more likely to kown the effective life of IUD.Recommendations:Encouraging family planning service delivery points to optimize the IUD selection in terms of efficiency and side effect;reducing types of IUD below 5 since the more types of IUDs supply do not necessarily usher an encouraging prospect of IUD use;encouraging the township family planning service clinics to undetake more IUD insetion services through capability strengthening strategy.
