Objective:To investigate the prevalence rate and demographic characteristics of urinary incontinence(UI),the proportion of various types of UI(Stress urinary incontinence:SUI;Urge urinary incontinence:UUI;Mixed urinary incontinence: MUI)),the factors associated with UI,and the demand of UI knowledge in female adults in Beijing area.Method:This study consisted of three parts:survey on prevalence rate, analysis of the factors associated with UI and survey on demand of UI knowledge.A cross-sectional survey using self-administrated questionnaire was conducted in 3100 female adults sampled from 3 urban areas and 3 rural areas, using multiple stage stratified systematic sampling technique.3058 subjects participated in the survey -(Respondent rate:98.6%;1542 in urban districts and 1516 in rural ones).Data on demographic characteristics, clinical data associated with UI,living and behavior patterns and the influence of UI on living quality were collected.Standard questionnaires of IQ-FLUTS and I-QQL were adopted to design our questionnaires. Double entries of data were conducted using Epidata software, and data were analyzed using SPSS 11.5 statistical software.Result:Based on the judging according to the questionnaires,in this study, the prevalence rate of UI in Beijing reached 22.1%(675/3058),and there was no significant difference between the prevalence rate in urban areas and that in rural ones((?)~2=0.350,P=0.554),and significant difference was found between various age groups((?)~2=277.718,P<0.001),showing the prevalence rate increasing with the age ascending. The subjects of SUI,UUI,MUI respectively accounted for 58.4%,33.9%and 7.7%of the total UI patients(675).Of 675 patients,254 knew having the disease themselves, which accounting for 37.6%of total UI patients. More patients in urban areas knew having the disease, compared with those in rural areas((?)~2 =124.844,p<0.001)。Consulting rate was 19.7%(50/254),and 7.9%received treatment(20/254)。73.3%(186/254) patients believed that patients should go to see doctors actively.60.6%(1853/3058) participants wanted to learn more UI knowledge through TV,video, internet and other media.Factors associated with UI in unconditional logistic regression were:age, disease history, semiliquid stool, abdominal distention, stress and fatigue,Cesarean section. The main factors influencing the living quality caused by UI included:being afraid of coughing or sneezing to cause UI(67.8%),being afraid of being wet by UI(66.7%),being afraid of UI aggravating by age(65.3%).Among these 3 types of UI,SUI leaded to relatively milder influence on living quality, while MUI caused more severe influence on living quality. Conclusions:UI is one common disease in female adults in Beijing, but few of UI patients know suffering from UI and receive treatment. The factors including abortion history, age,BMI,semiliquid stool, abdominal distention, stress and fatigue, Cesarean section are independently associated with UI occurrence.UI can cause the worse living quality.
