| Objective:This thesis studied the etiological factors and the pathogenesis of the post stroke depression (PSD) caused by the stagnation of the liver and the deficiency of the spleen, and observed the therapeutic effect of the Jian Zhong Jie Yu decoction, which proved its validity and feasibility. Methods:In clinic, 60 cases who had PSD with the traditional chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome of the stagnation of the liver and the deficiency of the spleen were randomly classified into two groups. In the experimental group, the patients were treated by the Jian Zhong Jie Yu decoction and in the control group, the patients were treated by Fluoxetine (Prozac). Eight-weeks were a course of the treatment. The changes of the HAMD scores and the TCM sign were observed. Results:By statistical analysis, the datum between the two groups which included the sex, the age, and the value of HAMD and the TCM syndrome before therapies had no significant deviation, so the two groups were comparable. After treatment, the clinical observations showed that the two groups' total value of HAMD and the TCM syndrome decreased, and there were no significant difference in improving the clinical symptom. But the experimental group was superior to the control group in improving the TCM syndrome. The Jian Zhong Jie Yu decoction did not only play a great role in ameliorating depressive or anxious spirit, but also in improving the TCM syndrome. This validates the correctness of treating PSD by dispersing the stagnation of the liver and strengthening the spleen. Conclusion: The Jian Zhong Jie Yu decoction can ameliorate depressive or anxious spirit, and its effect on treating PSD caused by the stagnation of the liver and the deficiency of the spleen is the same as Fluoxetine. There is no obvious side effect of the Jian Zhong Jie Yu decoction, and it is a safe and effective decoction to treat the post stroke depression.
