Objective:To study the prognostic relevance of alarm symptoms in gastric cancer,in order to make a reference to judge the diagnosis and outcome of gastric. Methods:From January 2002 to January 2004,172 gastric cancer cases were treated by our hospital, out of them,113cases have alarm symptoms(include weight loss,dysphagia,vomit,Gastro-intestinal bleeding and anemia),70 cases with the duration of symptoms over 6 months,43 cases with the duration of symptoms less than 6 months,follow-up the patients with telephone, analyses the relevance of alarm symptoms, duration of alarm symptoms and long termsurvival.Result:The three-year survival rate and five-year survival rate of all patients are 40.12%(69/172) and 19.19%(33/172),The three-year survival rate of patients, separately, with alarm symptoms is 30.09%(34/113),with weight loss is 29.35% (27/92),with dysphagia is 0%(0/9),with vomit is 0%(0/7),with Gastro-intestinal bleeding is 38.46%(10/26)and with anemia is 41.38%(12/29),without alarm symptoms is 42.37%(25/59),with the duration of symptoms over 6 months is 32.86%(23/70), with the duration of symptoms less than 6months is 48.84%(21/43).;The five-year survival rate of patients, separately, with alarm symptoms is 14.16%(16/113),with weight loss is 12.20%(10/92),with dysphagia is 0%(0/9),with vomit is 0%(0/7),with Gastro-intestinal bleeding is 23.08%(6/26) and with anemia is 24.14%(7/29),without alarm symptoms is 28.81%(17/59),with the duration of symptoms over 6 months is 8.57%(6/70),with the duration of symptoms less than 6months is 23.56%(10/43).The five-year survival rate of patients with alarm symptoms and with weight loss compared with the patients without alarm symptoms have significant difference, and the five-year survival rate of patients with the duration of symptoms over 6 months compared with less than 6 months also have significant difference. The three-year survival rate of patients with dysphagia and with vomit compared with the patients without alarm symptoms have significant difference. Conclusion:Alarm symptoms were intimate relevance in gastric cancer, and weight loss, dysphagia, vomit were found to represent significant predictive factors for gastric cancer.Duration of symptoms was not related to poor outcome, but the patients had a long duration of symptoms always had a worse outcome than who had a short duration of symptoms...
