Post-stroke depression(PSD) is an even-present affective disorder after stroke having manifestations of depressing emotion, activity decrease, and sluggish ideation the kind mental illness. The morbidity of PSD is from 20 percent to 79 percent. As the most common complications of stroke, it is one of the chief causes of suicide, also results in heavy pecuniary burden for patients, family and the society, It has direct influence on patients, quality of life and functional recovery. The World Health Organization (WHO) has pointed out that the 21st century mankind is faced with the biggest diseases such the kind mental illness. The research of PSD has aroused interest in many academicians of domestic and abroad. According to the stroke attack history and clinical manifestations of depressing emotion and depressive symptomatology by Hamilton depression rating scale for depression more than eight points and examinations, diagnosis can be made. Pharmaceutical prevention and treatment is focus on controlling risk factors, improving the cerebral circulation, promoting brain metabolism, Tricyclic antidepr-essants (TCAs) drugs and Seiective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Studies show that controlling risk factors, early diagnosis and medicine treatment could have a significant effect on the incidence and progress of illness, to improve the quality of life of patients.
