Objective:To detect the expression of E-cadherin and Vimentin and to discuss the epithelial-mesenchymal transition in transitional cell carcinoma tissue of bladder and its significance.Method:The expression of E-cadherin and Vimentin in 60 specimens of transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder was detected by SP immunohistochemistry.Result:(1) The abnormal rate of E-cadherin expression was 58.3%of all the 60 specimens of transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder. The abnormal rates of the three groups of different pathological grades were G1 16.7%,G2 59.3%and G3 81.0% respectively. There were statistical differences between the well differentiated group and the moderately differentiated group and there were also statistical differences between the the well differentiated group and the poorly differentiated group. But the differences between the moderately differentiated group and the poorly differentiated group were not statistically significant.(2) The positive rate of Vimentin expression was 43.3%.The positive rates of the three groups of different pathological grades were G1 16.7%,G2 29.6%and G3 76.2% respectively. There were statistical differences between the well differentiated group and the poorly differentiated group and there were also statistical differences between the the moderately differentiated group and the poorly differentiated group. But the differences between the well differentiated group and the moderately differentiated group were not statistically significant.(3) There was a positive correlation between the abnormal expression of E-cadherin and the positive expression of Vimentin. Conclusion:There is epithelial-mesenchymal transition in the development of transitional cell carcinoma of bladder. The examination of both E-cadherin and Vimentin may be useful for the judgment of prognosis of bladder carcinoma.
