Objective: To investigate the expressions of HMGA2and E-cadherin inbladder transitional cell carcinoma(BTCC)tissue, and the relationship withclinical stage, pathological grade andprognosis. Methods: The expressions of HMGA2and E-cadherin in49cases ofBTCC (including41cases of non muscle-invasive bladder cancer、8cases ofmuscle invasive bladder cancer,24cases of low grade bladder cancer、25casesof high grade bladder cancer)and5specimens of normal bladder tissues weredetected by immunohistochemtry, and their correlations to clinicopathologicfeatures were analyzed. Results: The HMGA2expression was negative, but The E-cadherinexpression was positive in5cases normal bladder tissue. The positiveexpression rate of HMGA2and negative expression rate of E-cadherin inbladder cancer tissue was41%and43%, respectively;the positive expressionrate of HMGA2and negative expression rate of E-cadherin in non-muscleinvasive bladder cancer and muscle invasive bladder cancer were34%,75%and37%、75%, respectively, the positive expression rate of HMGA2in muscleinvasive bladder cancer apparently higher than non-muscle invasive bladdercancer;the negative expression rate of E-cadherin in muscle invasive bladdercancer apparently higher than non-muscle invasive bladder cancer;there were statistical differences(P<0.05)。The positive expression rate of HMGA2andnegative expression rate of E-cadherin in low grade and high grade of BTCCwere25%,56%and25%,60%, Respectively, the positive expression rateof HMGA2in high grade of BTCC apparently higher than low grade;thenegative expression rate of E-cadherin in high grade of BTCC apparentlyhigher than low grade, there were statistical differences(P<0.05)。Thecorrelation between HMGA2and E-cadherin was statistically significant(P<0.05).42patients were followed up for18-40months, among which,18reccured.The positive expression rate of HMGA2and negative expression rateof E-cadherin in recurrence and non-recurrence groups were56%,25%and67%,33%, respectively, the positive expression rate of HMGA2in recurrencegroup apparently higher than non-recurrence group, there were statisticaldifferences,(P<0.05);the negative expression rate of E-cadherin in recurrencegroup apparently higher than non-recurrence group, there were statisticaldifferences (P<0.05)。Conclusion: The abnormal expression of HMGA2and E-cadherin isrelated to the malignant tendency of BTCC, and they may be used as markersto predict clinical stage, pathological grade and prognosis of BTCC.
