[Objective]To reconstruct the three dimensional visualization model in cleft lip and palate. Thus try to fabricate the patient's facies cranii bone replica by Rapid Prototyping technologies manufacturing with the data of three-dimensional model. And try to initial the palatorrhaphy simulation by the 3D model reconstructed.[Methods]A patient with cleft palate and a patient with velopharyngeal incompetence were included in this study. velopharyngeal scanning by 16-row helix CT was taken at rest and /a :/ position. The CT data was input into Mimics software to reconstruct the 3D model. The form and the structure of the velopharyngeal cavity in the 3D model was observed, and analyzed, meantime the length and the area was measured. After processing, the facies cranii bone reconstitute was input the RP apparatus, and the patient's facies cranii bone replica had been fabricated.The velopharyngeal 3D data of the cleft palate patient in /a:/ position was input into Imageware, in which to simulate the palatorrhaphy of two petal method, the application value of which was approached.[Results]The precise facies cranii visualization model of the cleft lip&palate patient was reconstructed, thus the model of the velopharyngeal was also reconstructed. The 3D model had individual specificity, in which the length and area of pharyngeal cavity was measured, so the change of the position of the soft palate in rest and /a:/ position was compared. It can guide the pre-operation design in velopharyngeal incompetence and wide cleft palate. A convenient and efficient method to reconstruct the visualization 3D model of velopharyngeal was founded. And the digitization model of the facies cranii of cleft palate patient was facsimiled.Imagware could be used to perform the operation of fixed-point, cutting, moving the 3D model of the velopharyngeal, then the simulation of the palatorrhaphy of two petal method was performed.[Conclusions]The 3D visualization model of the velopharyngeal cavity in cleft lip&palate patient could be reconstructed in Mimics software through personal computer on the data obtained from multi-row helix CT scaning. It works smoothly, and is precise. An operation simulation system for palatorrhaphy was founded, which could demonstrate both the surface and the skeletal structure by multi-points of view. For its direct-viewing, it could be used to applied to assist clinical diagnosis, pre-operation design and operation demonstration. The digitization model of the facies cranii of cleft palate patient could be facsimiled in course of RP technology, which has great value in cleft lip& palate anatomy demonstration and operation teaching.
