Objective: To investigate the occupation hazard status for the enterprises in Suzhou Industrial Park and develop an effective method for evaluating the occupation hazard.Methods: Using epidemiological cross-sectional methodology, the occupation hazard situations for the enterprises in Suzhou Industrial Park were investigated. The quantity and rank managing model for controlling occupation hazard in enterprises was founded with the simple and direct evaluation methodology based on four factors, degree of occupation hazard severity, effectiveness of prevention and control system being managed and run for the occupation hazard, managing capacities for controlling the occupation hazard level in working site, and number of workers exposed to occupation hazard factors. Simultaneously, the three-level index system for evaluating the occupation hazard situation comprehensively was established. Thirty senior specialists engaging in occupation hygiene management, prevention and research field were asked to give the evaluation score for each index in the Delphi specialist consultation questionnaire. The means for each index were analyzed. Eight enterprises, 3 for A rank enterprises, 3 for B rank enterprises, and 2 for C rank enterprises, were acquired using stratified sampling method. The hazard coefficients were calculated by comprehensive index methodology according to the enterprise investigation information and average specialist weight-index. The degree of severity for the occupation hazards for the enterprises was ranked by the evaluation results and was compared with the results of simple and direct evaluation methodology.Results: 1. Investigation results of the occupation hazard status for the enterprises in Suzhou Industrial Park. There were 349 enterprises existing occupation hazard factors, and 203 enterprises had reported the occupation hazard factors to administration by end of 2007. The major industries existing occupation hazard factors were those manufactures in communication, computer and electronics, uniform apparatus, metal, electronic machinery fields. The noise, dust, benzene and xylene were the major hazard factors. The eligible surveillance rate for silicon dust (48.1%) was lowest among the hazard factors. In whole, the effectiveness for controlling the occupation hazards for the enterprises in Industrial Park belonged to the higher level among nation. By end of 2007 year, there were 492 enterprises (times) having been surveilled. The eligible rate of surveillance was to 95.4% among 2874 surveillance sites. At same time, the surveillance works for the occupation health in enterprises among Industrial Park were improved significantly. There were 15,421 workers in the 100 focus enterprises receiving the occupation health body-test. One hundred and twenty one workers were screened to prohibit working in the potentially harmful position.2. After the effective quantity and rank managing model for controlling occupation hazard in enterprises being founded with the simple and direct evaluation methodology and carried out in the practice, from 2005 to 2007 year, the occupation hazards surveillance rates including positive and commission surveillance tasks were increasing significantly (88.6% to 95.4%).3. Three-level index system for evaluating the occupation hazard situation comprehensively was established, and the evaluation results for the comprehensive index methodology were statistically significant consistency to the simple and direct evaluation methodology's (rs=0.7181, P=0.0448)Conclusion: 1.There are occupational hazard factors in the enterprises in Suzhou Industrial Park accounting for 10% of all enterprises .2.The index system of occupational hazard evaluation was established.3.According to the implement effectiveness or the evaluation results with the comprehensive index methodology, the simple and direct evaluation methodology developed by us is an effective model for evaluating the occupation hazards for the enterprises in Suzhou Industrial Park.
