Cerebral infarction were caused by a variety of brain blood supply to the obstacles,which allowed partial irreversible to Irreversible damage , led to brain tissue ischemia and hypoxia-induced necrosis. It seriously endangers human health and threat the life of patients and affects the quality of life of patients. Conventional treatment of acute cerebral infarction includes thrombolysis, defibrase, improving circulation, anti-platelet aggregation and neuroprotective treatment.The effect of free radical scavenger which is belong to neuroprotective agent has become a research hotspot and been widely used in clinical in recent years.SOD, MDA, etc are MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES in the level of oxygen free radicals. Serum SOD, MDA contents ,etc can reflect the exact effect of free radical scavenging in patients with acute cerebral infarction after the clinical treatment of edaravone. and thus guiding how to reduce disability and mortality rates caused by ischemic cerebrovascular disease, improving quality of life of patients. In this study, we compare the patients with acute cerebral infarction, some of that are accepted edaravone treatment (treatment group) and the others received conventional therapy (control group) before treatment and treatment in 10 days by CSS and NIHSS score and we also carried out the extent of changes in brain edema compared. The results showed that the NIHSS and CSS score decreased significantly in patients of treatment group and reduced the extent of cerebral edema significantly. These results suggest that edaravone can reduce the extent of brain edema and improve their quality of life. We choose 81 patients with CT, MRI . Patients whose onset duration were within 48 hours. (including 41 patients were given edaravone and 40 normal control.) All case come from 2008.2-2009.2 at the department of neurology in China Japan Union Hospital of JiLin University, all of them accord with the diagnositic standard of national fourth Meeting of cerebrovascular disease in 1996. The therapy group was treated with edaravone injection in addition to the routine treatment received by the control group. Venous blood samples (5ml) were drawn in case group at baseline and after therapy 5d and 10d, and the same agent of samples were drawn in control group. Study results showed that after treatment the therapy group serum SOD level was significantly higher than routine group. SOD is a very important antioxidant enzymes in humans body. It can clear the superoxide anion to protect cells from injury. It plays an important role with body oxidation and antioxidant balance. The lipid peroxidation of the beginning of active, when the brain tissue ischemic brain tissue,because of consumption SOD begins to reduce,so SOD activity may indirectly reflect the body's ability to remove oxygen free radicals. SOD is the key enzyme to scaveng free radicals in cells as respective of an endogenous scavenger of oxygen free radicals. SOD activity decide the level of free radical scavenging in vivo. When cerebral ischemia, SOD reduced. Therefore SOD activity can indirectly reflect the body's ability to remove oxygen free radicals. Study results showed that after treatment the therapy group serum MDA level was significantly lower than routine group. MDA is a lipid peroxidation degradation products. Determination of MDA content in tissues can reflect the content of free radicals and free radical-induced lipid peroxidation level, indirectly reflect the degree of cell damage. Study results showed that after treatment the therapy group serum CAT level was significantly higher than routine group. The emergence of CAT demonstrated glial cell necrosis. It content could explain the increase in cytotoxicity and vasogenic brain edema size. The majority of scholars believe that the damage of neurons and glial cell is due to cerebral, A large number of intracellular protein leakage into the interstitial fluid, soluble CAT through interstitial fluid into the cerebrospinal fluid, then through the damaged blood-brain barrier into the blood circulation to protect the thinning-based enzymes, membrane proteins and play a role in detoxification with glutathione peroxidase.In summary, by the determination of serum SOD, MDA, CAT levels. We can draw conclusion as follow:It is effective to use edaravone in treatment acute ischemic stroke. Edaravone removes free radicals and inhibiting lipid peroxidation, so as to reduce the brain edema, reducing nerve dysfunction.
