Purpose: To study expression of nuclear factor of kappa B in vernal keratoconjunctivitis, learn to know the mechanism of vernal keratoconjunctivitis and provide theoretical basis to search for effective treatment method for vernal keratoconjunctivitis. Methods: Experiment was devided in two group .Test group is made of conjunctiva of vernal keratoconjunctivitis,it is 6 cases. Control group is normal conjunctiva group,it is 6 cases. Take the conjunctival tissue in similar site of eye ball, respectively, expression of NF-κB was measured in the tissue of vernal keratoconjunctivitis and normal conjunctiva by immunohistochemical method and Western blot. Results: Normal conjunctival tissue was observed in light microscope, there is very obvious limit and no infiltrating inflammatory cell is found. Dispersed new vessels can be found and much inflammatory cell infiltrate conjunctiva in the conjunctival tissue of vernal keratoconjunctivitis by light microscope, Eosinophile granulocyte is main. By the immunohistochemistry we can find none of NF-κB is expressed in normal human conjunctiva, but it is expressed very much in the conjunctival tissue of vernal keratoconjunctivitis. Expression of NF-κB was significantly higher in conjunctiva of vernal keratoconjunctivitis. than that in normal conjunctiva by Western blot, it was significant in statistics(p<0.05). Conclusion: NF-κB was expressed obviously in the conjunctival tissue of vernal keratoconjunctivitis, this hints NF-κB acted as the factor of the inflammated cell,it maybe participate in pathological damage process and induce inflammated cell to release inflammated substance. How to control its expression, then decrease liberation of inflammated substance from inflammaed cell can be the new method for the therapy of vernal keratoconjunctivitis.
