Objective: To compare the cost-effectiveness of combined use of Cefixime and Fleroxacin with combined use of Sparfloxacin and Amoxicillin in treating old female patients with lower urinary tract infection so as to provide the pharmacoeconomic evidence in for drug administration and clinical decision-making in treatment.Method: We chose one hospital in Jinan city of Shandong province as the case- study hospital by using purposive sampling method. Seventy three patients with lower urinary tract infection, who were admitted in the hospital from Jan,1 to Oct,1 in 2006, were divided into two groups in line of the perspective randomized controlled trial. Group A were treated with Cefixime and Fleroxacin and Group B were treated with Sparfloxacin and Amoxicillin. The cost-effectiveness of the tow groups was compared and analyzed. Group A received cefixime with 400mg po qd, and fleroxacin with 200mg po qd, and group B received sparfloxacin with 200mg po qd and amoxicillin with 1500mg po qd.Results: It was shown that the effective rate of group A was 97.06%, and group B was 83.33%. There was significant difference between two groups in the effectiveness rate (p﹤0.05) analyzed by chi square test. The average cost of group A was 460.5 yuan and group B was 439.35 yuan. There was significant difference between group A and group B(p﹤0.05).Conclusion: Administration of group A in the treatment of lower urinary tract infection was more cost-effective than group B so as to be a better scheme in the treatment. The result will be highly insignificance in the effective use and allocation of hospital resource.
