Simple lower urinary tract infection (SLUTI) is a common disease of urinary surgery. With antibiotic therapy, the pathogenic bacteria of SLUTI can be effectively inhibited or killed, however the inflammatory reaction caused by the pathogenic bacteria and its accompanying clinical symptoms can be protracted for a long period of time, which to some degree will affect the living quality and the recovery of patients. So far there have not been many clinic researches on the remission of related symptoms of SLUTI. A number of domestic and overseas pharmacological researches have proven that Japanese pagoda tree flower-buds have distinct anti-inflammatory and antioxidation effects. The famous doctor of Chinese traditional medicine, Yu Jizhen, has made notes of SLUTI with damp-heat that symptoms of urinary frequency and urgency should be remedied with Japanese pagoda tree flower-buds, which has remarkable remission effect on the symptoms. The following experiment has adopted the studying method of randomized controlled trails, which makes comparisons of the treatments of SLUTI with different doses of Japanese pagoda tree flower-bud combined with antibiotics, simultaneously contrasting with treatments with only antibiotics, in order to observe the improvement of patients’lower urinary symptoms with the application of Japanese pagoda tree flower-buds, and to estimate its unique healing advantages in the treatment of related symptoms of SLUTI, in the purpose of promoting the living quality and the recovery of patients.Subjects:72 patients admitted into Dongfang Hospital of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine from January to December in 2014, who conformed to the diagnostic criteria of both SLUTI and stranguria(downward flow of dampness-heat), were chosen as research subjects, and were divided into two groups randomly with 36 patients in each group. Methods:Control group:Considering the medical allergy and tolerance, the patients in control group were treated with Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium tablets with 3 tablets Bid for a week. Treatment group:Based on the same treatment with control group, the patients were additionally treated with 10 to 20 grams of comminuted Japanese pagoda tree flower-buds and 3 grams of dried ginger Bid for a week. Results:In treatment group,35 cases were effective (97.2%) with 1 ineffective case; while in control group,28 cases were effective (77.8%) with 8 ineffective cases. There was a significant difference between two groups in the effectiveness rate (p=0.028<0.05). Compared with control group, significant differences in remission effect on nocturia (p=0.004), incomplete urine (p=0.003), turbid urine (p=0.006), urethral burning (p=0.001), overall symptoms (p=0.004) in treatment group were manifested, as well as the difference in the remission time (p=0.019<0.05) and the rate of urine leukocyte turn to normal (p=0.028). The result suggested that the effectiveness of treatment group precedes that of control group. The incidence of adverse reactions between two groups was no difference(5.56%(2/36); 2.78% (1/36)).The two groups are no serious consequences. Conclusions:Treatment with Japanese pagoda tree flower-buds in combination with antibiotics has a better effect on treating SLUTI and safer than single usage of antibiotics, and has the value of promotion.
