Mouth health is an important part of human health. It is pointed out by the World Health Organization that it means a tooth, periodontal tissue, maxillofacial and the adjacent part of mouth has no structural and functional dysfunction. And mouth disease is as the third chronic non-infectious disease prevented especially by WHO. Children are easily affected by common mouth disease swayed their growth and mature. And the child is the largest plastic colony with individual behavior being formed. Therefore, it is very important for every doctor and nurse to take children mouth health as study object by enhancing relevant education and primary prevention care. Objective To investigate mouth health condition and its correlative factors of Yanbian Korean children aims at popularizing children's mouth health care, enhancing their awareness and providing theoretical evidence as a whole. Meanwhile the education during study can take children's deep interest in teeth protection, help them form good hygiene habits, and explore new mouth prevention care methodology. Methods Convenient sampling method was used. The participants were three 5-6 grade Korean primary school pupils in Yanji. The questionnaire was divided into five parts: 1)children's mouth health examination form; 2)children's knowing mouth health condition questionnaire; 3)children's mouth health behavior questionnaire; 4)children's parents' knowing mouth health condition questionnaire; 5)children's parents' mouth health behavior questionnaire. The study tool was self-made questionnaire and mouth health questionnaire recommended by WHO. Before the study, a pre-test had been done and its reliability and validity had been examined. Investigating method and diagnostic criteria of mouth epidemiology recommended by WHO was used by the qualified personnel to carry out the questionnaire survey and mouth cavity examination. The data was analyzed through SPSS.V13.0. And relative description research was doing by adoption rate, ratio, analysis of variance, t-test and chi-square test. Results The participant of the study was 398 Korean children. Caries rate was 63.1%(all was 1.9), gingivitis prevalence was 69.3%, malocclusion prevalence was 58.9%, brushing rate was 66.4%, the correct brushing method rate was 92.2%, choosing the healthy toothbrush was 58.6% and choosing fluoride toothpaste was 42.5%; regular mouth examination, anticaries fissure sealant and clean governance were respectively, 21.6%, 7.3% and 11.3%; 37.8% of the students had bad mouth hygiene habits to eat sweets before going to sleep; 28.8% thought that fissure sealant can prevent caries, and 22.6% believed that fluoride can be the prevention of dental caries. Children's mouth health care mostly came from their parents, less from dental professionals. Caries prevalence was closely correlated with mouth hygiene habits, the use of fluoride toothpaste, and the degree of parents' education and other factors. Conclusion The Korean mouth health awareness was relatively weak, and their children were lack of mouth health care knowledge. Both had limited mouth health education and treatment guidance. It was proved that the work on oral cavity disease prevention and control was not enough. Furthermore, the caries prevalence factor was primarily explored. Therefore the harmful factors affecting Korean mouth health should be effectively controlled to achieve their better mouth disease prevention.
