Relationship Between Contrast Sensitivity Function And Visual Field Defect In Primary Open Angle Glaucoma And Chronic Angle Closure Glaucoma

Objective: To investigate the relationship between Contrast Sensitivity Function and visual field defect in primary open angle glaucoma and chronic angle closure glaucoma, We can make use of it to justify the visual function damage .Methods: Patients with a diagnosis of primary open angle glaucoma and chronic angle closure glaucoma from 2007-6 to 2008-4 were included in the study. There were 39 persons (50 eyes) suffering from open-angle glaucoma, 36 persons (50 eyes) suffering from chronic angle closure glaucoma .In addition , 50 volunteers were recruited as control group .Visual acuity ,contrast sensitivity and visual field were measured before operation .All patents were performed with trabeculectomy .Contrast sensitivity were measured 10-15 days after surgery .Results: There were significant difference between volunteers and patients suffering from open angle glaucoma and chronic angle closure glaucoma . It was found that CSF could be abnormal in subjects with visual acuity of 1.0 or better and normal visual fields; the patterns of CSF loss were varied, and there was a linear correlation between the MS of the visual field and the CSF value . The results suggested that the measurement of CSF provided basis for the judgment of visual functional changes in the clinical observation of glaucoma. Conclusions: CSF could be abnormal in subjects with visual acuity of 1.0 or better and normal visual fields; the patterns of CSF loss were varied, and there was a linear correlation between the MS of the visual field and the CSF value .
