Objective: To study the curing action of the GuShangLing(GSL) during the period of fracture healing, and to explore the mechanism of GSL enhancing fracture healing.Methods: 48 rabbits which were produced models with 3mm defect in the middle of radius after the general anaesthesia by the NH2COOC2H5 liquor of 20% were randomly divided into three groups as follows: the GSL group, the GuZheCuoShangSan(GZCSS) group (the positive control group) , and the blank control model group, which were fed orally with GSL, GZCSS, and normal saline respectively. X-ray films examination were made at 7th, 14th, 28th day after operation; Ca,P,ALP in blood were tested at 7th, 14th, 28th day after operation; BMD,BMC were examined at 14th, 28th day after operation.Result: X-ray films examination were showed that the velocity of callus formation and qualities of healing process in the GSL group were better than these in the GZCSS group and the blank control model group (p<0.05); GSL can adjust the level of Ca,P,ALP in blood; BMD,BMC examination were showed that GSL group were better than the GZCSS group and the blank control model group (p<0.05).Conclusion: GSL can increase the velocity of callus formation, adjust the level of Ca,P,ALP in blood, elevate the collagen synthesis and reinforce the deposition of calciumsalt, which proved the GSL played an accelerate function in fracture healing and repairing.
