| As an important physiological phenomenon, sleep has an important effect on people's life and health. Good sleep will make us induce tiredness and make people refreshed, so more and more people have drawn attention to the problem of sleeping quality. However, along with the rapid rhythm of modern social living, the exaggeration of the work pressure. Insomnia has been a common disease and some other diseases' reason.Sleep is a complicated biological process whose function remains unknown in spite of decades of vigorous research. Although many interesting hypotheses have been proposed, none have been comprehensive enough to gain general acceptance. Recently, many studies found that features of sleep in drosophila are similar to human sleep, such as behavioral, pharmacological, molecular, and genetic approaches. So, drosophila with well-established genetics had become an ideal model organism for sleep research.In our studies, we used an Infrared Drosophila Activity Monitor System(DAMS ; Trikinetics Inc. Waltham, MA USA) with video recording system to record sleep state of drosophila. We observed and analyzed the recording data for continuous 24 hr, and defined sleep time that drosophila's quiescing time is not exceed 5 min. We investigated how can sex and age affect total sleep time and sleep-wake cycle in drosophila with index of sleep time.First, Our results indicated: Through observing sleep-wake cycle periodogram, Drosophila acts frequently in both light-dark transitional period and dark-light transitional period(7 hr and 19 hr),show two activity peaks, With the increase in age , Two activity peaks were more and more obvious. Sleep time mainly happens in the night.Second, For the same age and different sex groups of drosophila, Sleep time of male drosophila obviously exceed sleep time of female drosophila, the deviation is significant(p<0.001). Compared with sleep time of male drosophila, Sleep time of female drosophila has larger difference among the individual.Third, Different age drosophila groups, newly born drosophila group who compared with 20d age drosophila group and 30d age drosophila group, have significant difference(p<0.01 ),who compared with 6d age drosophila group , have not significant difference.Through this studies, We had done the groundwork for sleep research in drosophila. And the studies will be helpful for future sleep research. |
