| Objective To develop a patient classification assessment instrument for the elderly in home health care,laying a foundation for further study in home health care.Method The theoretical framework of the assessment instrument was developed based on Orem's self-care theory and literature review.Then the items were identified by 15 experts and pre-survey.The assessment instrument was tested with a sample of 424 seniors from two communities. Professional investigators were involved to collect the data.Then the data was inputted and analyzed by SPSS 11.5.The statistic methods concluded the test of reliability and validity,in addition to LSD test.Results①The instrument included 3 parts:the part of functional health,home health care need and the classification standard.②The scientific nature:the Cronbach'sαCoefficient of functional health part was 0.832 and the Cronbach'sαCoefficient of care need part was 0.932;Test-retest reliability of the 3 parts was 0.783～0.910;Construct validity:after analysis for significance,an Eigen value greater than 1 was established as the standard for selection of functional health part.6 factors cumulatively explained 65.71%of the variance;The internal relations between items for each dimension with r=0.499～0.885, while the care part,3 factors cumulatively explained 51.38%of the variance.③The feasibility test:the questionnaire's response rate of was 94%;The average time to complete the assessment tool was 15.13±5.57min.④Speannan's rank correlation coefficient of nursing work-time in different levels was 0.601,P＜0.05;the statistical results of LSD tests on the levels of the need for nursing time was significant.Conclusion①The results demonstrated that the assessment instrument had satisfactory scientific nature and feasibility.②All levels of care had central tendency in working hours,so we expect after the analysis of larger samples and the actual hours of nursing work,we can get accurate levels of working hours in order to lay foundation for classification management.
