Objective: To investigate the level of neuropeptideY(NPY) and calcitonin gene related peptide (CGRP) in patients with brain injury, to observe the relation between them and to approach the effect of them in progression of disease .Methods: We collected 65 objects (40 patients with brain external injury and 25 health volunteers )to examine the level of NPY and CGRP respectively in the first day,the third ,the fifth and the seventh by euzymelinked immunosorbent assay. Results: 1.Plasma levels of NPY in patients with brain injury were higher than those in healthy volunteers, and there was great difference between them, (P<0.05). And heavy degree is obviously higher than light one(P<0.05). 2. Plasma levels of CGRP in patients with brain injury were higher than those in healthy volunteers, and there was great difference between them (P<0.05)except light degree in seventh day.And heavy degree is obviously higher than light one within 3 day(P<0.05). 3.The plasma levels of NPY had no correlation with CGRP in brain injury groups (P>0.05). There was significant positive correlation between NPY and CGRP in plasma in the healthy control groups.r=0.489, (P<0.05).Conclusions: The results suggest that the level of NPY and CGRP increased in patients with brain injury ,and increased with the severity of brain injury. Both NPY and CGRP may play a part in the development of the patient's condition, imbalance of them may play a important role in the process of the disease development.
