Objective To study the effects of arthroscopic realignment surgery for patellofemoral chondromalacia by bilateral retinaculum releasing and traditional Chinese medicine washout. Methods 106 knees of 90 cases which fit the diagnostic and internalize but without the exclusion standard were divided randomly to three groups named A,B1,and B2 group. Group A (n=35) was treated with lateral retinacular release, group B1 (n=35) was treated with bilateral retinacular release and group B2 (n=36) was treated with bilateral retinacular release and traditional Chinese medicine washout, The therapeutic effect was evaluated according to the grading of Lysholm's knee joint function.Results1.The difference between the preoperative and postoperative Lysholm scores of group A was no-significant (P > 0. 05).2. The differences between the preoperative and postoperative Lysholm scores of group B1 and group B2 were significant (P<0.05).3. The differences between the postoperative Lysholm score of group A,B1,and group B2 were significant (P<0. 05).4. About the pain and swelling of the Lysholm score , the difference between the preoperative score of group B1 and group B2 was no-significant (P > 0. 05), but the postoperative score was significant (P<0. 05). Conclusions Compared with lateral retinacular release, bilateral retinacular release can rectify the pathological kinematic track of the patellofemoral joint better and make the lateral and medial interspace of the patellofemoral joint balance easier , and can better relieve the pain of the knee ; shu jin xi yao washout can promote the local bloodstream smoothly , prevent postoperative soft tissue adhesion , profit the regression of the knee joint swelling, reduce the dynamic pressure of the patellofemoral joint , so can relieve the pain too , the effect of this technique is suited for the chondromalacia patellofemoral joint.
