Objective:To investigate the effects of occlusal adjustment in the treatment of a patient with myofascial pain dysfunction syndrome(MPD)by using the T-Scanâ…¡computerized occlusal analysis system and electromyograph. Methods:A case was chosen from the patients whose chief complaint was nape and maxillofacial region muscle and temporomandibular joint(TMJ)pain in our hospital. The conservative therapy was noneffective for the patient.according to the indication of occlusal adjustment. The case was measured and analysised by the T-Scanâ…¡computerized occlusal analysis system with electromyograph prior and post the occlusal adjustment.Through the clinical examination such as occlusal and EMG activity of masticatory muscles and the value of visual analogue scale(VAS)to evaluate the clinical effect of occlusal adjustment by using the T-Scanâ…¡computerized occlusal analysis system with electromyograph.Results:1.After three months of the occlusal adjustment, the patient's clinical examination symptom was reduced or disappeared.Compared to pre-treatment, the value of patient's VAS decreased obviously.2.The patient's COF tended to the center region, and had the bilateral simultaneous occlusal contacts.3.The DT had significant reduced, that was all posterior teeth disclude near instantaneously once a mandibular excursion was commenced(within 0.5s).4.After three months of the occlusal adjustment, the balance of bilateral masticatory muscles increased obviously.Conclusions:1.After the occlusal adjustment by T-Scanâ…¡system,the bilateral simultaneous occlusal contacts and all posterior teeth disclude near instantaneously once a mandibular excursion was commenced. So the disharmony relation of occlusion, muscle and the joint were relived.Thereby, the clinical discomplaint was improved.2.The date and the picture the T-Scanâ…¡system reflect were objective, exact and precise. It was an effective way to use this system to treat the MPD patients.
