The roots of Indigofera spp have been used as main substitutes for traditional Chinese drug"ShanDouGen"in many provinces of China such as Shanxi, Henan,Hubei, Anhui and so on, usually called"Mu-Lan-Shan-Dou-Gen"or"Tu-Dou-Gen". In this thesis, we studied the chemical constitutes of the roots of Indigofera carlesii Craib (Leguminosae) which is one of the main resources of"Mu-Lan-Shan-Dou-Gen". Nine Compounds were isolated and separated from the EtOAc and n-BuOH extracts of the roots of Indigofera carlesii Craib (Leguminosae) by macroporous resinD-101,solvent extraction, silica gel column chromatography and re-crystallization, and six known compounds were identified by various modern spectral analysis ( 1HNMR, 13CNMR, DEPT, 1H-1HCOSY, HSQC, HMBC, TOCSY, NOESY ) and classical chemical methods, Their structures were elucidated as Friedelin(ICP-Y1), 2,3,6-tri-O-[3-nitropropanoyl]-α-D-glucopyranose(corollin, ICB30-G1), n-Butyl-β-D-Fructofuranoside(ICB30-G2), 3-nitropropionic acid( ICB30-G6 ) , 2,6-di-O-[3-nitropropanoyl]-α-D-glucopyranose ( coronarian ,ICB30-G7), 3-O-α-L- rhamnopyranosyl(1→2)-[β- D–galactopyranose(1→3)] -α-L-arabinopyranosyl oleanolic acid 28-O-α-L- rhamnopyranosyl(1→4)-β- D–glucopyranosyl(1→6)-β- D–glucopyranosyl ester(ICB50-G4).Compounds ICB50-G4, ICB30-G2, ICP-Y1 were first isolated from I. carlesii, and compounds ICB50-G4 were obtained from Leguminosae for the first time. Compounds ICB30-G1, ICB30-G6, ICB30-G7 could be responssible for the toxicity of I. Carlesii Craib. In this thesis, we also summarized the studies on botanical resources, chemical constitutes and bioactivities of Indigofera species.
