The end of the Qing dynasty when the surged population , unorganized exploitation of the mountains and other factors damaged the balance of the environment, is an important part in China'plague history, because there were so many epidemic diseases. In the 28th year of Guang -xu(1902), China experienced a serious cholera epidemic in the world cholera epidemic context. Looking at the studies integrated, although there are some achievements, but many basic task remains unresolved. The author will be on the basis of the predecessors'work, using local re -cords , medical books, collected works and other literatures, dividing the whole china into three major regions: the Huguang region, the Jiangnan region and the southeast coast, north and north -east areas ,adopting the method of differentiating diseases by prefecture to study the epidemic region, pattern, routes, as well as the natural and social background of 1902'cholera, and then discussing the relationship between the state and society. The cholera epidemic mainly disseminated along waters and traffic routes, as well as the communicatation between people. Its severely afflicted area include three major regions: Guang -dong and Guangxi region, the Yangtze River Delta area and Wenzhou Prefecture includeing its surrounding areas, and the junction zone of Jilu in the China's North Plain. Because of localities'natural and social environ -mental differences, the characteristics of the epidemic manifested differently. The reason for the cholera epidemic was the result of interaction between environment and the population. In the late Qing Dynasty, the increased population which caused dirty environ -ment, climate anomalies, railways and other modern means of transportation provided the outbreak of the cholera a great environmental conditions. In terms of the human factor, the dramatic increase of population in the late Qing Dynasty and the increased population density are important reasons for the outbreak of this plague ; the war , chaos and other man-made calamities made the flames even more worse, besides that ,people'unclean eating and living habits was also an important reason for the plague. As the strong infectious and high mortality of cholera, cholera pandemic have had a pro -found impact on people's lives and the changes of social structure. Because of the extensive scope and fierce momentum of this cholera, the impact was much bigger than before. The out -break of cholera caused a large number people's deaths, hindered the development of various economic activities in all sectors of society. The general public adopted superstitious ways such as "ghost repellent epidemic" facing with this cholera epidemic , and even some officials also did that. But on other hand, officials in the cholera epidemic took isolation and examination and other related measure based on their great influence , which reflecting its acceptation's about medical science and health concepts. Although Western medicine at that time was unable to resist to the traditional Chinese medicine, after all, the people had a certain understanding and contact of Western medicine , and this contact made people's emotional resistance change gradually and eventually promoted the establishment of public health and epidemic prevention system. So from that sense, the outbreak of infectious diseases promote the establishment of the modern health system.
