Lumbar Spine Instability is one of the common causes of moderate to severious low back pain. So far, the definition as well as knowledge to this disease have no standards, the diagnoses and treatments of lumbar spine instability also have different opinions. From the view of biomechanics, the spinal motion segment was considered to be the smallest spinal functional unit in the lumbar spine. This spinal functional unit includes two consecutive vertebral bodies, intervertebral disc, facet joints and ligaments. The normal stability of the lumbar spine is maintained by intervertebral disc, facet joints and ligaments and affected by peripheral nerve, muscles, abdominal pressure and so on. Lumbar spine instability mainly exhibits the spinal functional units'disfunction. It is important in combining clinical symptoms, signs and imaging manifestations(such as X-ray plain,flexation-extention X-ray,dynamic X-ray,CT,MRI and so on )in the diagnosis of lumbar spine instability. How to judge the lumbar spine instability in image manifestation and to guide selecting the correct therapy methods is one of the key points in diagnosis and treatment of this disease. This is also one of the research focus recently. The causes of lumbar spine instability consist of lumbar spine degeneration, traumaology, iatrogenic performances, anatomic variation, spine and kidney tumor and so on. Some surgeons are using nonoperative treatments for this lumbar spine instability have got good effects. The decompression and fusion precudrues by different kinds of internal spinal fixation device is one of the basic and effective therapies among all the treatments.
