Objective:To investigate the concentration and relation of macrophage colony-stimulating factor(M-CSF)and vascular epithelial growth factor(VEGF)in peritoneal fluid and peripheral blood of patients with endometriosis(EMs)and to detect their roles in pathogenesis of EMs.Methods:The concentration of M-CSF and VEGF was detected by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)methods in 35 cases of EMs and 11 cases of normal control without endometriosis.Results:1.The concentration of M-CSF and VEGF in peritoneal fluids and peripheral blood both was significantly higher than that in controls(P<0. 01,P<0.01);and the concentration of M-CSF and VEGF in peritoneal fluids was significantly higher than that in peripheral blood(P<0.01, P<0.01).2.The concentration of M-CSF in peritoneal fluids and peripheral blood of the patients in stageⅠandⅡwas not significantly different from that in stageⅢandⅣ(P>0.05,P>0.05);and there was no positive correlation between the level of M-CSF and rAFS(r=0.27,P>0.05;r=0.32,P>0.05).In the contrary, the concentration of VEGF in peritoneal fluids and peripheral blood of the patients in stageⅢandⅣwas significantly higher than that in stageⅠandⅡ(P<0.01,P<0.01); and there was correlation between the level of VEGF and rAFS(r=0.89, P<0.01;r=0.85,P<0.01).3.A positive correlation between both peritoneal fluid and peripheral blood levels of M-CSF and VEGF was observed in the EMs group(r=0. 35,P<0.05;r=0.40,P<0.05),but there was no correlation between the concentration of M-CSF and VEGF in control group(r=0.20,P>0. 05;r=0.51,P>0.05).Conclusion:1.The high levels of M-CSF and VEGF in peritoneal fluid and peripheral blood indicates that the increased M-CSF and VEGF secretion involves in the pathogenesis of the EMs.2.There is a correlation between the level of VEGF and the degree of EMs;while there is no correlation between the level of M-CSF and the degree of EMs.3.A synergistic action between the M-CSF and VEGF may play a role in the pathogenesis of the EMs.4.The high levels of M-CSF and VEGF in peripheral blood indicates that they can be the subsidiary index to diagnosis EMs.
