Objective To measure the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in eutopic and ectopic endometrium and it' s concentration in peritoneal-fluid and peripheral blood of endometriosis so as to investigate the roles it plays in the occurence and progression of endometriosis.Methods1 Peripheral blood and peritoneal-fluid specimens were obtained from 36 cases of endometriosis and 20 cases of normal controls, concentrations of VEGF were examined by enzyme linked immunosorbent assays.2 Endometrium specimens were obtained from 36 cases of endometriosis and 20 cases normal controls .the expression VEGF were measured by immunohistochemical technique.Results1 The VEGF concentrations in peritoneal-fluid and serum of both mild and severe EMs groups were significantly higher than those in controls (P<0.05) . No significant difference between the mild and severe EMs groups was found (P>0.05) .There were no correlation between the level of VEGF and degree of EMs( P>0.05 ). The VEGF concentrations of EMs groups showed a significant cyclic variation. There were higher in proliferative phase than those in secretory phase (P<0.05) . No significant difference wasfound in controls (P>0.05) .2 VEGF expression in ectopic endometrium and in eutopic endometrium was signficantly stronger than that in controls , Significant difference between in EMs groups and in controls was found ( P<0.05) .3 VEGF expressions of glandular cell in both eutopic and ectopic endometrium of EMs showed a significant cyclic variation. There were stronger in expressions of VEGF in proliferative phase than those in secretory phase (P<0.05) . No significant differencewas found in controls ( P>0.05 ) . Conclusion1 VEGF is a very important factor that may contribute to the pathegenesis of endometriosis by promoting neovascularization.2 The VEGF concentrations of EMs groups showed a significant cyclic variation. The level of VEGF is adjusted by female'hormone.3 There were no correlation between the level of VEGF and degree of EMs.4 The study may provide foundation of theory for EMs'anti-angiogenesis therapy. VEGF is a efficient organism maker to reflect invading growth and metastasis potency of EMs.
