[Objective]:To study the expression of Stathmin in human gastric carcinoma, explore the relationship between Stathmin expression and clinicopathological features in human gastric carcinoma;to study the expression of P53 in human gastric carcinoma, explore the relationship between P53 expression and clinicopathological features in human gastric carcinoma;and to find out the relationship between prognosis and the expressions of Stathmin,P53 in gastric carcinoma.[Method]:1. The expressions of Stathmin and P53 in 108 cases of human gastric carcinoma tissues and 20 cases of normal gastric tissues were detected by S-P immunohistochemistry.2. The correlations between the expressions of Stathmin and P53 alone or the coexpression and the clinicopathologic features as well as theirs prognosis were statistically analyzed.[Results]:1. In human gastric carcinoma tissues, the Stathmin expression and the P53 expression were positive in 62 of 108 cases(57.4%) and 64 of 108 cases (59.3%) respectively. And they were negative in human normal gastric tissues.2.The expressions of Stathmin protein,P53 protein had no correlation with age and sex(P>0.05);The incidence of Stathmin expression was significantly higher in poor differentiation( P <0.01), deeper invasion, lymph node metastasis, and advanced stages( P <0.05, respectively). Expression of P53 was correlated with lymph node metastasis respectively(P <0.05 ). but had no correlation with the depth of tumor invasion, differentiation grade and TNM stage (P>0.05).3.The Stathmin protein shew significant positive correlation with the P53 protein expression in gastric carcinoma (r=0.543,P<0.01).4.Univariate analysis showed that either Stathmin expression or P53 expression was significantly correlated with 3-year,5-year survival rate respectively (P <0.05).5.Multivariate analysis with the Cox regression models showed that coexpression of Stathmin and P53 was significantly associated with poor prognosis (P<0.01 ).[Conclusion]:1.The expression rates of both Stathmin and P53 were significant higher in gastric carcinoma than normal gastric tissues. The expression of Stathmin was associated with the depth of tumor invasion , differentiation grades, lymph node metastasis and TNM stage. The expression of P53 was associated with the lymph node metastasis. but had no correlation with the depth of tumor invasion, differentiation grade and TNM stage .That shew Stathmin,P53 protein promoted the processes of carcinogenesis, progression, invasion and metastasis of gastric carcinoma, upregulation of Stathmin,P53 promoted the processes of carcinogenesis, progression, invasion and metastasis of gastric carcinoma,Which made the gastric carcinoma cells more malignant and more invasive and easier to metastasis.2.Stathmin and P53 protein interpromoted in the processes of carcinogenesis, progression, invasion and metastasis of gastric carcinoma.3.Stathmin protein,P53 protein can be the indicators to judge the biological behavior of gastric carcinoma.4.Upregulated expressions of both Stathmin and P53 are the common event in gastric cancer. The coexpression of Stathmin and P53 was the independent prognosis factor for gastric cancer.
