Objective To evaluate the possibility and efficacy of Surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation with maze procedure by radiofrequency ablation during valve replacement procedure. Methods From February 2005 to June 2007,the cases with rheumatic heart diseases and atrial fibrillation consist of males 6 and females 8,mean age (55.6±8.5years) and artial fibrillation history (40.15±1·25months).Heart functions (NYHA) were as following: classⅡin 4 cases, classⅢin 9 cases,Ⅳin 1 cases. Intracardiac radiofrequency ablation was operated according to mazeⅢprocedure with equipment of Medtronic when valves operation were performed, including 4 with single electrode ablation equipment and 10 with double electrode .Results AF was disappeared in all 14 patients. In the 1 to 28 months follow-up ,11patients of 14 remained in sinus rhythm (78.6%)and 3 in irregular rhythm of atrial fibrillation. Conclusion The radiofrequency modified maze procedure during valve replacement procedure is safe and effective.
