Objective:To determine the quality of life in epilepsy and to identify factors affecting the quality of life in adult patients with epilepsy.Methods:152 adult epileptic patients were included.All patients completed the Quality of life in Epilepsy 31 Inventrory(QOLIE-31),the MOS item short from health survey (SF-36),Self-rating Depression Scale(SDS),Self-rating Anxiety Scale(SAS).And 50 general people completed SF-36,SAS,SDS.T Test determined the quality of life compared to general people.Univariate analysis and multiple regression analysis were used to determine factors affecting the quality of life in adult patients with epilepsy.Results:The score of quality of life in epilepsy was significantly lower than general people.Depression,anxious,duration of epilepsy,seizure frequency,education level, seizure sum,age of epilepsy onset,family education were the most significant factors affecting the quality of life(P<0.05).Seizure type,the type of employment,etiology, seizure time,and monitoring drug level affected the quality of life(P<0.05).Gender, marital status,nation were not factors that influenced quality of life(P>0.05).The most significant variables in the domain of overall quality of life were depression,duration of epilepsy,seizure frequency;the variables in the domain of seizure worry were depression, education,duration of epilepsy;the variables in the domain of emotional well-being were depression,seizure frequency;the variables in the domain of energy/fatigue were anxious,depression,seizure frequency;the variables in the domain of cognitive functioning were depression,duration of epilepsy;the variables in the domain of medication effects were anxious,seizure frequency;the variables in the domain of social functioning were anxious,age of epilepsy onset,seizure frequency;the variables in the domain of total scores were depression,seizure sum,family education.Conclusion:1.The score of quality of life in epilepsy was significantly lower than general people. 2.depression,anxious,duration of epilepsy,seizure frequency,education level,seizure sum,age of epilepsy onset,family education were the most significant factors affecting the quality of life,were the significant predictors of quality of life.3.seizure type,the type of employment,monitoring drug level,etiology and seizure time affected the quality of life,but were not the predictors of quality of life.4.Gender,marital status,nation were not factors that influenced quality of life.
