Objective:To explore the expression of midldne(MK)in laryngeal squamous carcinoma and its relationship with angiogenesis.Methods:1.28 cases of laryngeal squamous carcinoma with pathological confirmation and complete file record were chosen. The patients had not taken radiological theropy or chemotheropy before the operation.2.Sections were taken from paraffin-embedded block. The expression of MK and CD34 was determined by Immunohistochemistry.MK-positive cells were recognized and microvescular density(MVD)was counted.3.Data was analyzed by independent t-test,x~2 test and Fisher exact test.Results:1.The expression of MK in laryngeal squamous carcinoma was detected in both cytoplasm and cellular membrane(positive rote 42.9%).There was correlation between the expression of MK and the degree of cellular differentiation. The positive rate of MKin high-differentiation group was lower than that in modest-differentiation group with statistic significance(P<0.05).2.Microvescular density of MK-positive tissue was significantly higher than that of MK-negative tissue(P<0.01).3.The positive rate of MK was not correlated with sex, age, clinical stage of cancer and cervical lymphonode metastasis. Conclusions:1.There was MK expression in laryngeal squamous carcinoma and correlation between the expression of MK and the degree of cellular differentiation was observed.2.Microvescular density of MK-positive tissue was higher than that of MK-negative tissue with statistic significance. It was implicated that MK may accelerate angiogenesis in laryngeal squamous carcinoma.
