Clinical Presentations Of Drug Eruption: An Analysis Based On 71 Cases

Aim:To study the number of patients admitted into our hospital,frequent causes, types and systemic manifestation of drug eruption including the impact by age on the rate of systemic manifestation and by the most frequent systemic manifestation on the course of disease.Methods:A retrospective analysis was carried on the clinic date of 71 Drug eruption patients admitted into our hospital from Mar of 2001 to Feb of 2008.Analysis the causes,types and systemic manifestation of drug eruption.All the patients were divided into two groups by the age as young and elder group.The difference of systemic manifestation between the young and elder groups were campared.We further divided the patients who were exanthema eruption into group A and group B.The patients of group A were concomitant with the heptic or kidney damage,while the group B with neither concomitante.The difference of the mean hospital days of group A and group B was compared. Results:The most frequent cause of drug eruption were antibiotics(penicillin, amoxicillin,cefradine)and antipyretic analgesics.59.15%of all patients was exanthematous eruption,8.45%was urticarial eruption,8.45%was erythema multiform eruption and 8.45%was fixed drug eruption.The most frequent involved systems or organs were liver(53.5%),hematopoietic system(37.2%)and kidney (27.9%).There was significant differnece(P＜0.05)of the incidence of hepatic damage between the elder and young group,but there was no differnece of the incidence of kidney damage between the elder and young group(P＞0.05).There was no difference of the mean hospital days between group A and group B(P＜0.05).Conclusion:The most frequent cause of drug eruption were antibiotics and antipyretic analgesics.Exanthematous eruption,urticarial eruption,erythema multiform eruption,fixed drug eruption were most usual types of drug eruption.The systems or organs most frequent involved were liver,hematopoietic system and kidney.There were more patients with liver damage if the age was older than 40 years.The mean hospital days of patients with exanthematous eruption involving liver or kidney damage would be longer than whose liver or kidney were normal.
