ObjectivesTo explore the main symptoms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) combined with pneumocardial disease by the means of combiningl iterature research and statistic analysis, and make a primary clinical demonstration. So that to provide a basis to make a fast judgementof patient's condition.MethodsFirst of all, using documentary method to gather and sort out the all symptoms of the disease from ancient document of TCM, including name, pathogen, pathogenesis, differentiation of symptoms, principle of treatme nt, recipe and herbs. Then collect the non-duplicate symptoms to make aitem pool. Items closely related to symptoms which were found with literature review. After that, we using the Epidata 3.1 to establish thed atabase of those three respects and using the software of SPSS 11.5 to deal with frequency analysis.ResultsThe 198 documents' research show that lung-distension have the largest proportion in symptoms delineation , and by turn are wheezing and diaphragm retention of fluid. Prescription book are described more than others, and the next are combination books, medical classics, techni que of diagnosis books, acupuncture and manipulation books, medical thesis and record, and so on. Most literature are written in Ming and Qing dynasty. The content analysis are concentrated in symptom-complex , etiopathogenisis ,and pathogenesis. We align them according to the frequency of the symptoms, and find that gasping, cough, chest-inflating, non-prostration and pain were the most impotant symptoms which are close to the acient specialists' opinion. ConclusionsThis articles undertake the elementary study form the ancient documents angle, and it confirmed that there are some symptoms which will easily be ignored by the clinical doctors, but are important for the patients just like pulmonary symptoms, abdominal symptoms, eye symptom, the sleeping condition, pain, emotion, locomotor activity, and etc. We also find that gasping, cough, chest-inflating, non-prostration and painwere the most impotant symptoms. Compared with contemporary docters in the TCM field, they both think that gasping, cough are the main symptom. But ancient people pay more attention to the chest-inflating, non-prostration and pain symptoms while nowadays they pay more attention tosputum, swelling and cyanosis. However, this is only the first step of our study, and we hope it can best reflect the really fact. So it is suggested to study further with a larger sample of patients for valid ation of reliability and validity of this result. Hope this thesis willprovide new clues to docters and researcher.
