Objective: To compare the therapeutic effects of surgical procedures with microscope self-retaining laryngoscope and electronic laryngoscope for vocal cord polyps. Methods: Clinical data of 153 cases with vocal cord polyps were analyzed retrospectively. Of them, 89 cases received the operation with microscope self-retaining laryngoscope, and 64 with electronic laryngoscope. All patients received one week to thirteen month after operation. Results: Both surgical procedures were effective for resecting the pedicle skin flap vocal cord polyps. The clinical results of different operation methods have no reasonable difference ( p >0.05). But for the patients with wide-base vocal cord polyps ,the effective rate of microscope self-retaining laryngoscope group was higher than that of electronic laryngoscope ( p < 0.05). Conclusion: Operation with microscope self-retaining laryngoscope is the first choice for the patients with wide-base vocal cord polyps.Owing to low cost and simplicity, operation with electronic laryngoscope may be the first choice for those with small vocal cord polyps.
