The early and rapid coverage of cutaneous defects is a primary goal of burn care. Allograft has been recognized as the best biological dressing to cover wounds, but its source is very limited. The structure of pig skin is so similar to that of human skin that it has been more common to use to cover wounds in burn. Because the burned wound surface is the big opened wound surface, so pigskin has to be sterilized. And the viability of skin graft is not only essential to ensure its survival, but also critical in order to obtain to a permanent dermal replacement, therefore, in order to achieve the best therapeutic effect, the pigskins must maintain the greatest degree vigor, when sterilized. This requires for a relative equilibrium point between the viability and sterilization of pigskins. However, there is no established protocle for the injury to the skin viability by the disinfenctants used in the sterilization of the skin until now. Therefore, it is necessary to performe detailed investigation about the effects of the disinfectants on the viability and sterilization of the pigskins. This study has investigated the effects of different common disinfectants on the disinfection and viability of pig skins, in order to find out a proper disinfection methods of pig skins, and provide a theoretical basis for improvement the process of pigskins. In this paper, common disinfectants is used at different times of a single sterilization and sequence sterilization on the Bama pig skins. And then the viability and disinfectant efficacy of skins are evaluated. The results are as follows:1. 75% alcohol disinfection group treating for 3 minutes is better. The viability of skins are damaged, and remarkably decreased with times. After 5 minutes , the skins begin to harden and dehydration.2. When treated for 15 minutes by 0.1% bromogeramine disinfection , the viability of pigskins are better, then decreased with times, but obviously the bacteria quantitation is not decreased. So the best time is 15 minutes.3.When 5% Povidone Iodine solution disinfection and 0.05% Povidone Iodine solution disinfection treating for 5 minutes ,there is no significant difference (p> 0.05) on the viability of skins, oppositely, between them, there is significant difference (p <0.05) in the bacteria quantitations. So it is the best that 5% Povidone Iodine solution disinfection treat for 5 minutes.4.40mg/100ml Gentamicin saline solution has little impact on the viability of the skins in 15 minutes. But in 30 minutes, the viability of skin reduced and the mumber of bacteria went up. So the best time is 15 minutes.5.When pigskins are sequence sterilized used with above disinfectants, At the beginning , there is a greater significant descent, and then slow. It would still also maintain about 73% viability of the fresh skins. And the sterilizing of the skin has a better results, there is a clear downward trend in bacteria content. Eventually bacteria quantitations are about 0.38% of that of fresh pig skins, the carrier rate is greatly reduced. Conclusions, In three disinfectants, considered the viability and disinfectant of the pigskin, treating pigskin with 5%Povidone Iodine solution for 5 minutes is a efficacy method. Otherwise, it is better treating pigskin sequence sterilized with several disinfectants, and combined with antibiotics, compared with treating pigskin single sterilized with one disinfectant. But under the prerequisite of maintaining the vability of skin, it is still very difficult that the pigskin is completely steriled.
